Nanny Space Family FAQs

The Nanny Space is an easy way for families and nannies to connect online. You may browse nanny profiles for free, but purchasing a membership will give you access to their contact information. In purchasing a membership you will have access to thousands of nannies. Members will have access to useful documents such as reference questionnaires, our babysitter checklist, and a sample contract for you to fill out with your nanny.

A 30-day membership is $45, a 60-day membership is $65 and 180 days (6 months) is $190.

You may register to become a spotlight family after you are a registered member. This allows nannies to see your profile first every time they login! Just $15.99 for two weeks in the spotlight!

Absolutely! Have a look at the nannies! You will be able to view candidates’ profiles before paying any money. Their contact information will be available to you once you have purchased a membership.

A nanny’s primary responsibility is to provide excellent childcare. Nannies will also be responsible for cleaning up after your children, preparing their meals, and general light housekeeping. It is a good idea to discuss your expectations during the initial interview.

Some nannies will have CPR/First Aid certification. You will want to ask potential candidates if they are certified and if it is current. We highly recommend that you have your nanny get certified if she is not already.

A nanny’s hourly rate of pay will vary from state to state and may even vary by cities or regions within a state. The rate of pay will also depend on whether you are employing a full-time nanny or an on-call babysitter. Pay is also determined by the amount of experience a nanny has. Typically, a live-out nanny will earn between $10 and $18 per hour. A live-in nanny’s compensation will often include room and board so her hourly rate of pay may be less than that of a live-out nanny’s.

Conducting a background search is an important part of the screening process when hiring a nanny, babysitter, or au pair. It provides you with invaluable peace of mind.

The interview, whether it is over the phone or in person, is the most important step in determining if a nanny is a good fit for your family. You will want to ask a lot of questions that will help you get to know the nanny. Ask them about their past work experience and about their hobbies and interests. You will also want to ask them for their childcare references. The Nanny Space is an online database of nannies and does not screen or interview the nannies who post their profiles on thenannyspace.com. Members of The Nanny Space have access to more detailed interviewing guidelines, which can be found on our Resources page.

Throughout the process of looking for a nanny you may need to update your profile to change your required schedule and other information. Simply login, go to "My Account" and click on "Edit Profile"

A nanny can be part-time or full-time but usually keeps a regular schedule with a family and generally has more qualifications, and therefore charges more than a babysitter. Nannies can also be live-in or live-out caregivers. A babysitter is typically a bit less experienced and does on-call work with families, such as date-nights or sporadic Saturday morning work, for example. An au pair is traditionally a childcare provider that relocates from a foreign country to live with the family.

Sure! Anyone that abides by our Terms and Conditions may use The Nanny Space to recruit childcare providers. It is always recommended that you tell the nanny right away that you are not a family, however. Please check to see that the candidate is okay with receiving inquiries from agencies and other non-family users.

No. Unfortunately, all transactions on The Nanny Space are non-refundable.

Many families will buy a membership to The Nanny Space to search nannies, but they will choose not to create a family profile. These families simply prefer to contact nannies rather than having nannies contact them. If this is the case, these families will not appear in a search, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t get contacted about nanny jobs. Sit tight, and wait for a family to contact you about an available position.

Absolutely! Just make note of your situation in your “free space” and on other relevant places of your profile.

Yes, of course! Anyone over the age of 18 can post a free childcare profile on The Nanny Space. Some families prefer foreign nannies; however, many families will only be open to interviewing local candidates that they can meet in-person. We recommend extensive email exchanges, phone conversations, and even video chat sessions (i.e. Skype or Site Speed) if you plan to take a position far from home.

Our aim for this site is to connect childcare providers in need of work with available positions. Anyone can create a “Family Membership” as long as the user abides by our Terms and Conditions. It is up to YOU to determine whether or not you wish to pursue such jobs. Please report any user that has violated our The Nanny Space Terms and Conditions. We aim to maintain a helpful and safe Internet Venue.
